It was cold and rainy, but participants in the Adult Program represented Frazer well at the 17th Annual Disability Day at the Capitol on March 5. They joined thousands of other individuals and organizations in the state’s largest disability event to promote access, opportunity and meaningful community living for all Georgians. This year’s theme was celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, which takes place in July.

Before the rally, attendees gathered at the Georgia Freight Depot to make posters and attend Advocacy 101 Workshops. The rally was held at Liberty Plaza where elected officials and Eric Jacobson, the Director of the Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities, addressed the crowd. Highlights included a great speech from Georgia Governor Nathan Deal who emphasized the need to increase the number of work opportunities for people with disabilities across the state. Even U.S. Congressman, John Lewis, video-conferenced in to leave an important message:

“None of us, not one of us, not any of us must be left out or left behind. Continue to stand for what is right and what is just.” – John Lewis

Unfortunately, the weather cut the outside rally short, but Frazer participants used the time to explore the capitol building. It was a terrific day of advocacy and allowed the disability community direct access to elected officials in the constant effort to remind them that Disability Rights are Civil Rights!
